Language Programs
Language instruction is an important element of the Middle East Studies Program at Madison. The University of Wisconsin- Madison offers language instruction in a variety of ancient and modern Middle Eastern and Turkic languages and dialects, including: Arabic, Hebrew (Biblical and Modern), Kazan Tatar, Kazak, Uzbek, Turkish, Ancient Egyptian, Aramaic, Ugaritic, Canaanite, and Syriac among others.
This page provides links to materials relating to some of these languages/dialects and their countries of origin. Materials range from links to Web-based resources to virtual tours of Middle Eastern countries (constructed from photos provided by UW-Madison faculty). The sheer size of the World Wide Web makes it impossible to have located all available materials. If you are aware of online materials not included on these pages, please contact us. We hope that the materials included here prove helpful.
We have also included course listings related to each language. These course listings are also found on this site in the "Courses" section, but are reproduced here for convenience.
