Division of International Studies

College of Letters and Science (L&S)

This college contains all departments in the social sciences, natural sciences and humanities.  Links to all these pages are available here, as well as important information about L&S.

International Institute:

The International Institute of the University of Wisconsin-Madison was created in 1996 to support and encourage interdisciplinary teaching and research in area and international studies. The Institute is a joint venture of the Division of International Studies and the College of Letters & Science (L&S). Institute programs include eight federally funded centers as well as programs focusing on global studies, comparative cultures, international relations and the global economy. Each year, the Institute sponsors a broad array of educational and outreach activities, and involves hundreds of participating faculty and students in workshops, conferences, and research circles.

Global Studies Program:

The Global Studies Program (GSP) is a research training and outreach program that fosters critical thinking across regional and disciplinary boundaries to better understand a complex, ever-changing and globalized world. Founded in 1991 as a center for the study of peace, security, and international cooperation, GSP is the cross-regional, international partner of seven Title VI centers housed administratively in the International Institute.

Go Global! The International Careers Website:

Go Global! is based out of the Global Studies Program offices assists UW-Madison students and others as they prepare and search for internationally-oriented employment. Included are links to campus resources and contacts and a host of career development tools, as well as links to websites and pages that specialize in posting career opportunities and resources worldwide.

Division of University Housing

Contains information about living on campus (both graduate and undergraduate), campus food services, employment with campus housing, etc.

Visitor and Information Program

Contains information about community services, a database of off-campus housing options, and a student handbook as well as other useful information.

Office of Student Financial Services

The Office of Student Financial Services assists students whose personal and family resources are not adequate to cover the cost of attendance involved in attending UW - Madison. The office also offers counseling to students to help them manage their money effectively, debt management counseling, and information on such other potential sources of financial assistance as departmental and non-University scholarships, and UW and off-campus employment. The office provides small short-term loans for emergency situations as well.

Office of the Registrar

An essential page with course information, an academic calendar, a glossary of terms, tuition information, and a link to My-Info (where students must list address information, can attain their grades, course schedules, check on outstanding fines/fees, etc).

Catalogs

Links to both the graduate and undergraduate course catalogues, as well as information about how to attain a printed copy.

Electronic Library

Access to the library collections of all libraries affiliated with Big Ten schools.  Provides a searchable database and availablitity information.

Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students is a resource for UW-Madison undergraduate and graduate students in all programs, schools, and colleges. There are eight Dean of Students' units, all designed to provide important services and support.  Links to information about these services are available here, as well as an up-to-date student handbook.
