The Fulbright Scholar Program (FSP) offers U.S. faculty, administrators, and professionals grants to lecture, conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields, or to participate in seminars.
For the 2020-2021 FSP competition, awards available to UW-Madison scholars include:
- Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program – offers ~500 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.
- Fulbright Distinguished Chair Awards – comprise approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing/research awards ranging from three to 12 months.
- Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminars – help U.S. international education professionals and senior higher education officials create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. Grantees have the opportunity to learn about the host country’s education system as well as establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues over the course of an intensive two week grant duration.
- Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar Awards – open to U.S. scholars who have recently completed their doctoral degree – typically within the five previous years. These grants present an excellent opportunity for recently minted scholars to deepen their expertise, to acquire new skills, to work with additional resources and to make connections with others in their fields.
- Fulbright Global Scholar Award – allows U.S. academics and professionals to engage in multi-country, trans-regional projects. As a truly worldwide award, U.S. scholars will be able to propose research or combined teaching/research activity in two to three countries with flexible schedule options; trips can be conducted within one academic year or spread over two consecutive years.
Applicants apply directly to CIES; there is no campus component of any of the competitions though we encourage UW-Madison faculty and staff interested in applying to reach out to the IRIS Awards Office: Mark Lilleleht in the IRIS Awards Office is happy to assist those exploring options and considering putting together an application.
