Faculty position in Early modern/modern History of the Mediterranean World at the American University of Beirut

The Department of History and Archaeology at the American University of Beirut invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor faculty position in the early modern and modern history of the Mediterranean world to begin August 15, 2023.

The department especially welcomes applications of candidates working on the Arabic speaking world in its Mediterranean context particularly in such areas as the history of trade, migration studies, as well as cultural and intellectual exchange. PhD must be in hand by the time of appointment. The appointee will provide undergraduate and graduate teaching in his/her field of specialization and more general topics covered in the department’s regular program. Aside from teaching, the successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the supervision of graduate students, engage in productive research, and contribute to academic service related to the department and the University at large. The language of instruction is English but the ability to work with and teach using Arabic sources is strongly encouraged.

Appointments at the assistant professor rank are for an initial period of four years.
