The Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies’ Spring 2023 Scholarship Competition is now open.

The deadline for all awards is March 6. For the application forms and other details, please visit this webpage: https://cjs.wisc.edu/scholarships-awards/.

You may apply for multiple awards. The awards fall into the following general categories:

1. Achievement awards to recognize excellence in Jewish studies (available to undergraduates and graduate students)

These awards are designed to recognize work you have already performed in areas ranging from Hebrew language to social justice.

2. Awards to support study and research in Jewish studies (available to undergraduates and graduate students)

These awards are designed to provide financial support for ongoing and future study or research in any area within Jewish studies. Support can be used for study abroad, study at other institutions in the U.S. (e.g., YIVO), conference travel, research trips, membership fees for academic organizations, and research-related books that are difficult to obtain through the library system. (Unfortunately, we cannot support UW tuition or seg fees.) Please note that the itemized budget for the Study and Research Awards must be accompanied by screenshots documenting the amount of each anticipated expense.

3. The Lipton Essay Award (available to undergraduates and graduate students)

This scholarship is awarded for an essay of at least 10 pages on a topic in Jewish studies.

4.  The Laurence A. Weinstein Distinguished Graduate Fellowship (available for graduate students only)

If you are applying for this award, please use the application form for the Achievement Awards, and follow the instructions appearing on this page of our website: https://cjs.wisc.edu/weinstein-graduate-fellowship/

All materials should be submitted to cjsscholarships@cjs.wisc.edu. Please direct any questions you may have to that same email address.

Finally, an important note: Receiving an award may affect a student’s financial aid package. To learn more, we strongly encourage you to contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@finaid.wisc.edu.
