MESA welcomes and invites nominations and submissions to MESA’s 2023 awards competitions.
MESA Book Awards
Deadline: April 15
Nominations are welcome for the Albert Hourani Book Award, Nikki Keddie Book Award, and Fatema Mernissi Book Award. Books must be non-fiction scholarly monographs based on original research published in English between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. Roger Owen Book Award: Deadline: April 15
This award recognizes the very best in economics, economic history, or the political economy of the Middle East and North Africa scholarship. Roger Owen Book Award Guidelines
MESA Mentoring Award: Deadline: June 1
The award recognizes exceptional contributions retired faculty have made to the education and training of others. MESA Mentoring Award Nomination Guidelines.
Jere L. Bacharach Service Award: Deadline: June 1
The award recognizes an individual’s outstanding service to MESA or the profession. Service is defined broadly to include work in diverse areas, including but not limited to outreach, librarianship, and film. Winner is awarded $1,000. Bacharach Service Award Nomination Guidelines.
Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Awards: Deadline: July 1
Students completing their dissertations between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 may submit entries for the Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Awards. The competition is meant to recognize exceptional achievement in research and writing for/of dissertations in Middle East studies. MESA Graduate Student Paper Prize: Deadline: August 15
Graduate student research papers on any aspect of Middle East, which have not been previously submitted for publication, are sought for this blind review. Winner is awarded $250. Full guidelines may be found here.
