Fulbright Week!

Fulbright at UW Madison is hosting our first ever Fulbright Week during the week of March 4-8, 2024. There will be a mix of both in-person and virtual events where interested students, alumni, faculty, and staff can learn more about the many Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays programs available as well as connect with current Fulbrighters, past recipients, and Fulbright and commission staff.

Register for one or more of our programs below, stop by the Fulbright Coordinator’s office (256 Bascom), and let us know what programs you’re interested in learning more about today!


Fulbright Scholar Program information session

Monday, March 4, 2024, 1-2pm

Information session for UW-Madison faculty, staff, and those exploring post-doc options interested in learning about the Fulbright (US) Scholar Program (FSP). Join IIE’s FSP program officer Keegan Scott, the UW-Madison’s Scholar Liaison, Mark Lilleleht, and recent UW-Madison FSP awardee/s to explore opportunities to teach, conduct research, and carry out professional projects in more than 135 countries. In addition to a program & awards overview, we will discuss the application, review, and selection process, available resources to support UW-Madison applicants, and more.

The 2025-2026 Fulbright Scholar Program competition is currently open.


Fulbright US Student Program information session – focus on study/research/arts awards

Learn about opportunities available to pursue graduate study, conduct research, and practice your creative & performing arts abroad through the Fulbright US Student Program (FUSP). Applicants for a FUSP must be a US citizen at the time of application. Food and drink will be provided! In addition to reviewing the program and upcoming competition, we will be joined by two recent UW-Madison FUSP awardees who will share their experiences: Brandon Goodale (Uruguay 2021) and Seungmi Laura Cho (South Korea 2022).

Every Wednesday we have drop-in hours where you can have your questions answered, schedule a more in-depth appointment, or just learn more about what “Fulbright” could make possible for you!


Fulbright US Student Program information session – focus on English teaching assistant awards

Online information session for UW-Madison students, staff, and alumni interested in opportunities available through the Fulbright US Student Program (FUSP) to be an English teaching assistant (ETA) abroad. Applicants for a FUSP must be a US citizen at the time of application. In addition to an overview of the FUSP ETA awards and opportunities, campus resources, and next steps, we will be joined by recent UW-Madison awardees who will share their experiences, including Will Sanford (Germany 2019).

The 2025-2026 Fulbright US Student Program competition will open April 2, 2024.


Coffee with the Fulbright Commissions and Posts

Thursday, March 7, 2024, 8-9am
Online – advance registration is required

Join us on Thursday morning to meet staff from Fulbright commissions and posts representing Austria, Belgium/Luxembourg/EU, Estonia, and Taiwan to learn about the opportunities available to US students, faculty, staff, and alumni through the various Fulbright & Fulbright-Hays programs as well as get insight into how commissions work in-country and with awardees. Each country will present an overview of awards and the awarding process; there will be time reserved for Q&As as well.

Those interested in the broad range of opportunities available through both the Fulbright US Student Program and the Fulbright Scholar Program are encouraged to attend – this program should provide unparalleled insight into how Fulbright works in countries around the world, regardless of which particular award you will be pursuing!


Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad application workshop

Application workshop for those with an active 2024 Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad application. This is an opportunity for DDRA applicants to work with peers and the UW-Madison’s Fulbright Coordinator to have questions answered and get feedback on their application, discuss and brainstorm around particular components, and provide a supportive environment to strengthen their project.
