Eleven scholars from the U.S. and abroad will present papers that investigate the phenomenon of 20th- and 21st-century architecture making references to pre-modern Islamic monuments and built environments. Professor Jennifer Pruitt and UW-Madison PhD candidate Ahmed Abdelazim will both present research on the meaning of Islamic architecture in 20th century Egypt.
