K.D. Thompson

Professor Thompson received an ASMEA (Association for the Study of Middle East and Africa) Research Grant of  $2500 for “How to Be a Good Muslim in a Swahili Marriage: Gendering Marriage Advice through Writing and Orality,” to be presented at the Eighteenth Annual ASMEA Conference, November 1 – 3, 2025, Washington, D.C.

She was accepted into the 2025 Summer Humanities Grant Writing Workshop (SHGWW) at the Institute for Research in the Humanities, where she will work on grant proposals for her fourth monograph, Women, Voice, and Muslim Radio in Tanzania, which explores women’s engagement with a Swahili-language nondenominational Muslim radio station, Radio Nuur in Tanga, Tanzania.
