Are you interested in exploring Middle Eastern themes with art and primary sources? The Kohler Art Library has a special collection of artists’ books related to Middle East Studies that can be viewed by classes in our seminar room. Artists’ books are works of artistic expression that use the concept and form of the book as a place of departure. Books by artists like Islam Aly and Golnar Adili explore themes of tradition, memory, and social issues related to Middle Eastern and Islamic culture. Books in our collection are written in various languages including Arabic, English, Farsi, and Urdu.
We welcome individuals and classes to visit the Art Library and see the collection in-person. For more information or to schedule a viewing session please contact Anna Simon, Head, Kohler Art Library at ajsimon2@wisc.edu. The larger collection can be accessed here via UW Digital Collections.
