Dr. Tyler Fisher
Dr. Tyler Fisher began working with the Kurds, Yezidis, and Assyrians of Iraqi Kurdistan in 2012 at the invitation of the Kurdish Regional Government’s Ministry of Higher Education, to assist in building their state university system’s humanities program. Specifically, he led the development of local oral history and folklore projects and the Hendrin Centre for Language and Cultural Studies at Soran University. In 2014, the rise of ISIS and their genocidal campaign against the Yezidis gave an urgency and focus to documenting the voices of this ethno-religious minority. Tyler’s most recent publications on this subject include “Yezidi Baptism and Rebaptism: Resilience, Reintegration, and Religious Adaptation” in the Routledge Handbook on the Kurds (2019), and “Palliative Prophecy: Yezidi Perspectives on Their Suffering under Islamic State and on Their Future” in Refuge in a Moving World (UCL Press, 2020).
