For the Religious Studies Program March Brownbag Lunch Series, Affiliate Professor Adam Stern (German and Jewish Studies) will introduce the life and work of Ilan Halevi (1943-2013), best known as the first Jewish member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). It will set his writing on Jewish history and memory against the background of contemporary debates about Zionism and settler colonialism.

About the speaker: Adam Stern arrived at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2019. His first book, Survival: A Theological-Political Genealogy, was published with the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2021. Recent articles have appeared in journals such as CR: The New Centennial Review, Modern Intellectual History, and Critical Times. He is currently working on a synthetic genealogy of the Jewish settler.
