Dr. Fida Adely will discuss her new book Working Women in Jordan: Education, Migration, and Aspiration (2024) which examines the internal migration of university-education women in Jordan for work. Drawing on women’s narratives about migration, she considers the force of expectations generated by academic success, as well as the gendered implications of their movement.

Fida Adely is the Clovis and Hala Maksoud Chair in Arab Studies at Georgetown University and the Director of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. Her research interests include education, labor, development, and gender in the Arab world.

Sponsored by the Department of Educational Policy Studies, and cosponsored by the Network for International and Comparative Education, Lunch & Learn, and the Middle East Studies Program.
