About the Talk: This talk will explore the dynamic interplay between autocracy, democracy, and university autonomy in the 21st century through three illuminating case studies from Turkey.

About the Speaker: Batuhan Aydagül is a doctoral student at the Department of Educational Policy Studies, UW-Madison, with a concentration in Comparative International Education and Global Studies. Batuhan holds a B.A. in Business from Marmara University in Turkey and an MA in International Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University. Batuhan’s research interests involve critical policy analysis of K-12 and higher education policies focusing on the interplay between state and educational institutions. His dissertation research looks at how flagship public institutions in Turkey and Wisconsin navigate right-wing higher education politics.

About Karpat Talks: The Karpat Talks is a series of presentations designed to highlight the research of graduate students, scholars, and visiting academics in Turkish Studies. The talks aim to create a space for dialogue and knowledge exchange on topics ranging from Ottoman history to contemporary Turkish issues.
