MESA Graduate Student Paper Prize

The Middle East Studies Association invites submissions of unpublished graduate student research papers on any aspect of Middle East studies since 600 CE for the 2025 Graduate Student Paper Prize. The author of the winning paper receives a certificate and $250. Papers will be reviewed blind, and evaluated according to originality of research and conceptualization (or interpretation), cogency of argument, and clarity of writing.

Submissions must have been written while a graduate student. The paper must never have been submitted for publication, and papers should not be submitted for publication until after the conclusion of the competition. The announcement will be made during the MESA Awards Ceremony. Afterward, the author is encouraged to submit the winning paper for publication in the Review of Middle East Studies (RoMES).
